Schwinn Paramount
Schwinn Paramount OS PDG U.S.A. by Waterford, 58 cm, Dura Ace
Ok folks, we are going to present our findings from a deep dive into the history of U.S.A. made Schwinn Paramount bikes, some of the finest steel bicycle frames ever made. Sit back and enjoy this ride: this bike came to us through a donor who wanted it to go to a good home, but also for the proceeds to benefit Bicycle Collective's charitable mission. We believe the price we have set for this bike to not only be a good deal for the right person who will appreciate the historic value, but it will also fund 10 give away bicycles for Bikes For Goodwill recipients, folks who can't afford to be any kind of bike.
For many years, Schwinn Paramounts were the pinnacle of U.S.A. made road bikes. In the late 80s to early 90s, Schwinn started importing Paramount frames with the PDG Series markings. Many of these frames were high quality, as they were being made in the Panasonic factory, another reputable quality builder. At first glance, someone might think, because of the PDG stickers, that this was one of those Panasonic bikes. But researching the serial number, and what was going on with Schwinn and the Paramount brand in the early 90s, we have figured out this is a 1991, Waterford-made Paramount, and even confirmed the serial number with Richard Schwinn (yes, THAT Schwinn, he is the founder of Waterford and Gunnar). The serial # is: 580 DMW G91041, which confirms made in the U.S.A., manufactured in July of 1991, and a 58 cm frame. Let's just say the paint is in MINT condition, and the wear on the 8 speed Shimano Dura Ace components is minimal. The only flaw with this time capsule is the wheels do not match.
