Volunteer as a Youth Open Shop Instructor

Do you like working with children and youth? Do you like bikes? Do you want to learn more about bike mechanics? Then this might be a great opportunity for you!

We are looking for people interested in working with children and youth ages 8-17. 

This is a great leadership and learning experience for both the instructors and the kids. 

 

Our Youth Open Shop is a structured program at our Community Bike Shop. We have six workbenches available. Kids bring in their own bikes or learn how to fix bikes that have been donated to the Bicycle Collective. 

  • You'll be working with 2 to 4 kids
  • depending on your skills: you'll be helping kids work on their own bikes (for advanced mechanics), or you'll help instructing them on the tasks of the day (beginner to intermediate mechanics)
  • We'll train you!


Requirements: 

  • Positive teaching and leadership skills
  • Mechanical background preferred
  • High energy positive disposition, able to listen ,follow and give instruction.
  • Be available Mondays from 4:00-7:00pm
  • Must be at least 18
  • This is a weekly program. Be available Mondays from 4:00-7:00pm, at least twice a month.
