Bicycle Collective’s New Hub Building Has A New Name

Introducing the Kahlert Community Bicycle Resource Center, located at 325 West and 900 South, in Salt Lake City.

The evolution of Bicycle Collective’s New Hub building continues, with the announcement that it is now the Kahlert Community Bicycle Resource Center, thanks to a generous multi-year pledge from the Kahlert Foundation. The Center’s doors first opened to serve the community in November of 2023, shortly after building completion, with a Grand Opening celebration held in May of 2024, featuring remarks and speeches made by key supporters, volunteers, community partners, and attendance by local media.

“Bicycle Collective is more than just about bikes; it’s about empowerment, sustainability, and building a stronger community. By giving individuals the tools and resources to get moving –literally and figuratively–they create opportunities for independence, health, and connection. Supporting an organization that combines environmental impact with human impact was an easy decision for me,” said Heather Kalhert, Executive Vice President of The Kahlert Foundation.

Bicycle Collective is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and recreation, and a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. They provide refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community focusing on children and lower income households. Financing for the new building was secured by Bicycle Collective through a creative blend of foundation grants, individual donations, New Market Tax Credits equity financing, and a low interest construction loan from the Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City (RDA). The RDA also provided the land for the project.

“This generous donation combined with the support and encouragement of The Kahlert Foundation is transformational. It enables us to reduce our construction loan debt by nearly 70%. The Kahlert Community Bicycle Resource Center is a place for people to gather and connect, and a place to support those in need with critical and accessible services like independent transportation,” said Donna Matturro McAleer, Executive Director of Bicycle Collective.
