October Volunteer Highlight: Ogden

In order, left to right, Chase, Gage, and Roxie, our volunteer bicycle valet leaders.

Each month, Bicycle Collective features a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution from one of the Bicycle Collective's four locations.

Roxie and Chase volunteer in our Ogden location, and can always be relied on to enthusiastically volunteer or take part in any event their schedules allow. In the past couple of years they have led our bicycle valet crews at the Ogden Twilight concerts, along with Lidia and Gage. This year, they helped to park 481 bikes and collect over $700 in donations for Bicycle Collective, all while providing a safe place for folk to park their bikes at the concert series.

How did you get involved with Bicycle Collective?

Roxie: My husband, Chase, first told me about the Bicycle Collective early in our relationship. We signed up for the Ogden Twilight bike valet together, and the rest is history!

Chase: I met Lily at a volunteer outreach at a Weber State bloc party. I was mainly looking to expand my social network as I had just got back to Utah from working in Canada.

What do you enjoy most about Bicycle Collective?

Roxie: I’m a huge advocate of cycling for exercise, transportation, and fun, so being part of an organization that helps get people on bikes for any of those reasons is amazing.

Chase: I enjoy learning bike mechanic skills in a hands-on environment. Having more knowledgeable mentors eases the mostly self-learning nature of mechanics.

How has cycling impacted your life?

Roxie: As fast as it feels riding a bike, I love how much it’s helped me slow down and appreciate the day to day. Commuting by bike is longer and more difficult, but it’s so worth it to me to find the opportunity to be active while accomplishing everything I need. Plus, I love seeing the look on people’s faces when I let them know I got where I was going on two wheels!

Chase: Cycling provides an opportunity for exercise while allowing me to mentally slow down and digest my own thoughts.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Roxie: I’m a passionate snowboarder; you’d be hard-pressed to find me at home during the winter months. Outside of sports, I love cooking and reading in my downtime.

Chase: I'm an avid snowboarder, regularly logging >40 ski days per season. I make it a point to visit 1-2 new resorts per year to broaden my perspective.

Thank you, Roxie and Chase, for everything you do for Bicycle Collective in Ogden.
